Listening
for
Light
Why "Listening for Light"?
God is associated with light. From the earliest words of Genesis, God said, “Let there be light,” and called the light good (Gn 1:3-4). At the beginning of his gospel, John wrote of Jesus that “his life brought light to everyone,” light that “shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it” (Jn 1:4b-5). Jesus called himself “the Light of the world,” and taught that we are also the light of the world (Jn 8:12; Mt 5:14). Spiritual direction, "listening for Light," is attending to the movement and activity of the triune God in our lives, our communities, and our world.
Our Vision:
to form, train, and develop prospective spiritual directors, addressing the growing need for competent, compassionate, deeply attentive people to support others who are Listening for Light.

What We Believe:
The Listening for Light program is deeply grounded in the Christian story, as confessed in the Nicene Creed. We are committed to the truthfulness of that story, and as God leads and enables us, we live as disciples of Jesus. Because we believe that every human person is deeply loved by God, we willingly and prayerfully meet both with people who share that story with us and with those who are seeking, questioning, doubting, or even denying that story.

Instructor - Supervisor
Laurie Mellinger
Laurie delights in meeting regularly with people who are watching for the movement of God in their lives. Along with serving as a worship leader and as a seminary professor, she has been offering spiritual direction, and forming and training new directors, for many years. Listening for Light is a dream come true!

Doreen Miller
Doreen has enjoyed many roles in the past, such as mother, grandmother, doctor, missionary, and youth advisor. But in these latter years, she finds great joy in teaching, supervising, loving, and encouraging spiritual directors in the marvelous, miraculous ministry of spiritual direction.
Hospitality - Prayer Coordinator
Kristina Denlinger
Kristina enjoys creating spacious places for people to reflect, rest, and experience restoration and growth. One of her deep desires is to see people transformed by their encounters with Jesus and their experiences in community. She loves creatively depicting her prayers, meandering through flower gardens, and watching for hummingbirds.
